Terms and Conditions
This document represents an agreement between the individual identified on the Manuscript Submission Form [hereafter referred to as the Client] and Med-Edit [hereafter referred to as the Editor] for the Editor to carry out a substantive edit of the document submitted by the Client.
Cost and Duration of Project
The cost of this service and the time required to complete it are based on the total number of words ("word count") in the document minus the word count in any sections the Client wants to remain unedited. The cost will be based on the net word count (total - disregarded words) .
Cost
The document will be edited at a rate of ILS 0.20 per word. This covers the two rounds of editing described below.
Editing after Round 2 is available at a 20% discount.
Duration
Start date: The date on which editing will begin. The "approximate start date will ppear) on the invoice the Client receives after submitting the document. If the start date is unacceptable to the Client, the Client may propose an alternate date and notify the Editor by email (eliana@med-edit.online). If the Editor finds the new date acceptable, the original invoice will be voided and replaced with one containing the revised start date. If the Client and Editor cannot agree on a start date, the job will be cancelled and the invoice will be considered null and void.
End date: The date on which the Editor will send the Round 1 document to the Client for review. Documents of 4,000 words or less will be sent to the Client within approximately one business week (Sunday – Thursday) following the Start date. For longer documents, allow approximately one more business day for every additional 1,000 words.
Completion date: The date on which the Editor returns the completely revised version of Round 2 to the Client.
Balance due date: The date on which payment is due.
Number of rounds
The document will go through two rounds of editing:
Round 1 begins on the start date. When this round of editing is complete, the manuscript will be sent to the Client to check for factual accuracy. The Editor may request clarifications about specific issues in the manuscript and may suggest revisions to improve its readability; the Client is asked to approve or disapprove of these changes or modify them further. If the Editor anticipates a delay of two weeks or more in sending Round 1 to the Client, the Editor will inform the Client of the delay and suggest an alternate date. If the new end date is acceptable to the Client, the Editor will complete the job and reimburse the Client 10% of the total cost. If an end date cannot be agreed upon, the Editor will reimburse the Client 40% of the total cost of editing the document.
Round 2: After checking the manuscript for accuracy and responding to the Editor's queries, the Client shall return the reviewed document to the Editor within one business week after it was received. The Editor will then incorporate the Client’s responses and proofread the document for typos and consistency in the use of the elements of style. If the Client foresees a delay of more than a week in returning the document, the Client shall inform the Editor of the possibility of a delay. If the document will be delayed longer than 2 weeks after the End date, the Client will pay a penalty of ILS 500 for every additional week it is delayed.
The Editing Strategy
The Editor will carry out a substantive edit of the Client’s document based on author guidelines in the target publication. If a target publication has not been selected, the Editor will review the document per the AMA Manual of Style and standard rules of English grammar.
The document will be edited in American English only.
AI will not be used in the editing process. If AI was used to generate any part of the submitted document, that portion will be edited as though it were original text.
The Client shall submit this document to the Editor via the Document Submission page on this website or in a Microsoft Word file attached to an email addressed to eliana@med-edit.online. In either case, the Client shall provide the word count and indicate whether any portion of the document should remain unedited.
The specific approach to editing will depend on the type of document. As an example, the following will be applied to a journal article:
Title and abstract: Do they reflect the content of the article accurately?
Hypothesis: Is it written clearly in the Introduction and referred to accurately in subsequent sections?
Content: Is it clearly relevant to the section in which it appears?
Compliance: Does the text adhere to the rules of grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, etc., that appear in the author guidelines of the publication or the AMA Manual of Style and standard English?
Terminology (units of measure, acronyms, drug names, etc.): Are terms used correctly and consistently throughout the manuscript?
Readability: Does the manuscript contain words or phrases that can slow the reading pace (e.g., the use of verbs as nouns)?
Graphic elements (figures, tables, graphs): Are they in the correct location in the text? Are they numbered correctly?
Patient sensitivity: For example: Is the patient defined by the disease (e.g., “diabetic patient”) or rather than identified by it (“the patient with diabetes”)?
